The Life-Saving Impact of Harm Reduction

1 Million Naloxone Kits Distributed
Aaron’s Law has saved thousands of lives since it was signed into law nearly a decade ago. In 2024, we reached a significant milestone, distributing over 1 million doses of naloxone. The impact of accessible harm reduction tools is clear, and Indiana experienced one of the most significant decreases nationwide, with a 19% reduction in overdose deaths statewide.

“It was actually used on me. And because someone left a Narcan™ spray at my house, I am alive to tell my story. And with the test strips provided by [ODL], I was able to prove that the pill I was given was in fact contaminated with Fentanyl.” –Anonymous Self-Reporter
26.9% Drop in Black Overdose Deaths
What began as a research initiative to address access barriers has grown into MACRO-B—a community-powered harm reduction coalition responding to the opioid epidemic’s devastating impact on Black communities in Indiana. The coalition brings together 23 partners, from overdose survivors and family advocates to first responders and government leaders.
262 Hours of Mentor Support
Camp Mariposa: Aaron’s Place, our year-round, free addiction prevention and mentoring program for youth ages 9-12, continues to thrive. Between our 34 Mentors, we provided 262 hours of mentor support to 43 Campers.

“Before I came here, I was kind of confused with what happened in my life because I couldn't get all the pieces together. I didn't know how I was supposed to feel, so I just felt everything. I just felt every emotion and it was very hard for me. At Camp Mariposa so far, even though people who have struggled with addiction in my life, I may feel like I don’t like them but it’s just the disease I don’t like. I can still can love the person while hating their disease." —Camper
Heart Rock’s 7-Bed Expansion
When a mother heals, her whole family can heal for generations. At Heart Rock Justus Family Recovery Center, moms recover alongside their babies every day. To meet growing demand, we added seven beds for women and children transitioning to more independence, while still receiving support from the Heart Rock community. We also added two offices to expand Occupational Therapy and Administrative Services.

"I was very lost in my addiction. From going through this program, I have been restored to sanity.”—Haley, Heart Rock Graduate and Staff Member
Empowering Families
In 2024, Overdose Lifeline trained 64 new facilitators to lead CRAFT (Community Reinforcement and Family Training) family support groups, ensuring that even more families have access to the tools they need to support loved ones struggling with substance use. Across Indiana, 8 active groups empowered families to break the cycle of addiction.

“I am so excited to start this group in our communities. I feel that skills I learned about during the CRAFT training will also help me to be a better group facilitator in the other groups I lead.”—CRAFT Facilitator
Healing Through Grief
In 2024, Overdose Lifeline’s Peer Grief Support program offered healing to 209 newly bereaved individuals and 19 families. Through the addition of 5 new Peer Grief Helpers, the program has expanded its reach, ensuring that those who’ve lost loved ones to overdose are supported with compassion and community.
Over 1 Million Educated on Prevention & Advocacy
Over the past decade, Overdose Lifeline Education has trained and educated over 1 million individuals on opioid overdose awareness and prevention through our online courses, community education programs, and youth prevention programs. With partners in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., we are helping reshape substance use education nationwide.

"I wish more healthcare professionals could get this training. Addiction is our country's number one public health problem, and it cannot be ignored. We need training, resources, and a workforce equipped to intervene. Addiction is a medical issue, and we need to address it as such. I must say I loved this training! Overdose Lifeline, you did an excellent job putting this together. I will recommend this training to everyone as it is accurate, and explains every aspect of addiction simply and clearly. Keep up the excellent work! I am very impressed!”—Student
Youth Prevention Programs
“It’s not about drugs, it’s about what you need and want in your life; friends, family, sports, jobs are all something you don’t want to throw away for something to make you feel high.” —Student

This year, we trained 545 school personnel across 47 school districts, distributed 1,401 naloxone kits, and placed 36 emergency medication boxes in schools, improving safety and preparedness. This program was funded through the CareSource Foundation.
TINAD: Perspectives

Perspectives offers honest conversations and powerful learning through online self-guided modules, peer-based discussions, and reflection assignments. The program has already begun reshaping substance use education nationwide with screenings held in Washington, D.C., Indiana, and California.
