South Bend, Indiana Naloxone Distribution and Training Event

Saving Lives – Harm Reduction

Fifty individuals received training and free Naloxone (Opioid/Heroin anti-overdose) kits in 1/24/2016 Naloxone distribution event in South Bend,IN.
Overdose Lifeline, Inc. joined Brandy Baker, Drugs Overdose Prevention Education D.O.P.E and provided training and distributing Naloxone (Narcan) Sunday, January 24 in South Bend, IN.
Approximately 50 individuals received training and FREE Naloxone kits on Sunday at the Portage Township Fire Department which hosted the event.
Naloxone (Narcan) reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. Opioids include heroin and prescription pain pills like OxyContin, Percocet, methadone, and Vicodin. When a person is overdosing from an opioid, their central nervous system is depressed and breathing slows or stops. Naloxone blocks the effects of opioids and reverses the effects of an overdose. It cannot be used to get a person high. If given to one who has not taken opioids, it will not have any affect then, since there is no opioids in their system to reverse.
